i was on the hunt for a 25-5 S&W 45 colt with a four " barrel with TT,TH and TG,s for 4-5 years and at a small gun show last weekend i found this 1987 revolver and ended my hunt. it is in ex condition inside and out. i shoot a ruger single action with a 7.5 barrel in 45 colt-45acp, but this 25-5 made me do a happy dance. eastbank.

Very nice indeed.

I've got a soft spot for 45 Colt. I have a 625 Mountain Gun and an Astra copy of a 25, but if I ran across a gun like yours I'd be sorely tempted. Enjoy!

if i can,t kill it with 250gr cast bullets at 900-1000 fps, i,ll get this ruger and shoot 250 jhp,s at 1200-1300fps. eastbank.

A 4" "N" frame in 45 caliber is nearly the perfect revolver! Everything you need in a "N" frame and nothing more.

I prefer mine with the tapered barrel and the ACP chambering.

I searched for over a decade for a 25-5 4" in .45 Long.

Finally found one about 5 years ago. Paid close to a grand for it, which I knew was too much at the time, but the very few I were seeing locally were even more expensive, and I wasn't going to wait another 10 years.

Check the cylinder throat diameters. I had a M25-2 in great shape. Cylinder throats were around .455" and it was inaccurate and leaded with 452 lead bullets. I traded it in 1989 for a new M25-7, and that was when I found that S&W had gone to .452 diameter chamber mouths.

The only way to make the larger chamber mouth guns shoot straight is with larger diameter bullets.

Very nice pick.
I have a 6" and have shot it a lot. Accurate as hell. I reload 250gr .452 lead from Missouri Bullet. The bullets just drop through the cylinder (oh no, not that). However, I have not experienced any accuracy problem or leading.
With all the supposed problems, I can't understand why they are so sought after. I got mine, I love it. You do the same. Enjoy it.
