I'm dealing on an 29-2, 6 1/2" barrel, S&W that's claimed to be 99.9% or better condition and they're claiming it's unfired. It's from an estate. The revolver has Houge grips on it and the lady can't find the original box and target grips.

Can someone tell me if K-frame target grips will fit on a N-frame. I would suspect not, but it doesn't hurt to ask? All my S&W revolvers are K-frames and I have a set of target grips that are like new.

Regards;
Rod

The original target grips are IMO uncomfortable - too wide at the base and shaped wrong.

I put Hogue smooth finger grips on my 29-2 6.5" and I never looked back. I kept the original grips as they look so good, but they ain't worth a tinker's damn for shooting.

K frame grips will not fit at the top by the web of your hand, they will sit forward and be unsightly, not to mention leaving a few shap edges exposed.

I bought a 29-2 that was wearing very old, hard plastic grips, did not come with the originals.

I picked up a set of new, soft rubber houge grips for it.

I recently found a set of original square butt N frame grips at a gun show if good condition, paid $20 for them. They fit fine, but are very uncomfortable to shoot with. I went back to the soft rubber grips.

Oh, just to second the above, N frame and K frame grips are not interchangeable. You need to know if your 29-2 is a square butt or round butt model before ordering any new grips for it.

It would be nice to have the correct grips if you ever intended on selling it, but they are rather uncomfortable. You can get a nice set on eBay for about $75, or hunt the gun shows like cmidkiff :). But remember to get the target grips correct for your gun, it will matter to a collector wanting to buy it.

IMHO, the stock N frame checkered "Target" grips were designed by the Marquis de Sade. If ever checkering was designed to rip my hand, that was it. Depending on the size of your hands, the old S&W smooth combat finger grooved grips may set your heart a flutter. They were pretty, and I liked them, and they fit, but I still liked Hogue exotic wood finger grips with a contrasting cap and white spacer better. (Okay so I'm a sucker for a pretty face)

Thanks for the info, guys. I decided to the buy the 29-2 as it's the very best one I've come across for quite some time. There was another one that was tempting; it was a 29-2, nickle with a 8 3/8" barrel that was also in pristine condition. It has the original wood target grips. Nice gun, but I prefer the blue finish and the 6 1/2" barrel so that's what I went with.

Yes the hogue grips are more comfortable to shoot with. My S&W stub nose has them, but I've got the wood target grips on two 357's and one 22 and I do pretty good with then as well, but the Hoque grips are more user friendly that's for sure.. Would be nice to have the original set to keep with gun. Hey, I've got another reason to go to all the Gun Shows.
