What would be some good suggestions for a M19, 4" square butt revolver? I'm looking for something a little more slim and ergonomic than the S&W target grips. (I also don't want the Hogues that extend below the grip frame.) Can anyone post pictures of grips you have on a square but K-frame?

Thanks for any help,
Steve

Do a search for Blu Magnum. They have grips for S&W's that are the old Roper pattern that Skeeter Skelton favored. Slimmer than the stock grips, functional and attractive.

You should try service stocks with a Tyler Grip Adaptor. I find it best for my hand. Here is a pic of my K38 equipped with the above combo, superb gripping and very good indexing.

Think Pachmayr?

Fighting gun that might save your life someday = Pachmayrs. Try the "Gripper Pro" or "Compac Pro." The 'pro' designation means that it is a slim grip w/exposed backstrap. More recoil than a rubber-padded backstrap, but nice trigger reach for sm-med hands.

Pretty gun that spends 90% of its life in a safe = gorgeous wood grips from Ahrends, Eagle, even Hogue. You CAN'T beat the ol' blue steel/wood grip combo. S&W sells some nice-looking grips on their website for k/l/n frame revolvers.

I've NEVER shot a revolver that didn't shoot better, for me, with Pachmayrs. For some reason they seem to be custom made for me.

Nice thing is, they're only about a 25.00 'gamble.'

I took a pair of old junky target grips and hacked and filed and sanded til I got this far, along with a little grinding on the grip frame to make it a rounded square butt.

Brian, that rig looks like one a feller just might know how to use by the time he arrived at that point. Kudos on doing what works and not what is popular, making it fit you is what it is all about. Nice photography as well.

Brian,

Is that Analog? Are the old copies published on the Internet anywhere? Are old issues available anywhere?

HSMITH - I like those grips you have, there. I have them on a model 10. Isn't the square grip frame on the M19 larger?

Thanks for all the info.

Steve

No, the square butt on the models 10 and 19 are identical. In fact all square butt K and KT frames use the same grips in whatever configuration. The service-magna grips are often found as "takeoff's" at gun shows, and while they may need refinishing they're usually inexpensive.

Thanks OF!

Steve, add L-frames ala the 686 and such to the list of donor guns when looking for grips. The K and L frames all use the same grips.

These grips here are for a SB K frame. They are very slim with palm swells and feel great. I got them on ebay but really have no idea who made them.

Does anyone have an idea of who might have made these?
I got several differing opinions over on the S&W forum.

586? So, someone cut back the ejector rod lug? That looks great. Who cut it back?

Randy, I don't know what they are but they don't "feel" like Herrett grips, something just isn't quite for them to be Herrett. They look fantastic whatever they are. I would like to have a set like that for sure.

The "ultimate":D :D 586, It took about 5 hours of slow speed grinding and finish filing to remove the lug and then about an hour of sandpaper and some cold blue to finish, I also ground off some of the point of the grip frame to make it a round square butt. It handles like a 19 on streoids. It is amazing how when you spend some time making a piece fit what you like and want it soon becomes a favorite.

randy63 - if theose grips were not in wood i would have said the were from Rogers (of plastic holster, 1911 mags and FBI fame) because i have a set of roger's grips that look exactly like theose except for the material. roger's grip were made in plastic.

i guess he could have been using someone else's design or...someone could have copied his design in wood

Steve,
I've got a S&W Model 66 4" which is just like your model 19. I've been looking at www.eaglegrips.com and www.herrett-stocks.com you might have luck with hogue grips, not sure of their website.

Eagle grips offers their classic model which is reminiscent of the S&W wood stocks of the 1950s through 60s.

Herrett's makes Jordan Trooper grips.

Good luck.

Those unidentified grips might be Fuzzy Farant's work, don't recall if he offered checkering though.
