If it's a closeout/clearance sale, then they won't be reodering right? Well, if that's the case, then Smith won't be replenishing their stock, so buying these wouldn't affect Smith's bottom line, and wouldn't implicate the boycott right? (Yes, I know it's rationalization, but I find it hard to pass up below cost sales on toys.)

$389 Thx Erich thats a hellva price on a S&W 296 .At the local gun shop their sticker price was $710.00 . It looks like I have to go see my FFL .:)

There is a problem buying new 296 in Calif. or bringing in a used one as the 'approval' listing expire 04 Jan 03 and S&W aint renewing it.:fire:

I got mine from Gunfinder.net for $375.06. It is my favorite carry gun. I would say it is the ultimate mid sized carry gun. Buy it now. As far as I am concerned, the new owners of S&W are not following through with the Clinton agreement and are working to get out of it. They are American made, American owned, and are the best revolvers out there.

I bought a close out 696 44 Spcl and really like
it a bunch. Had always passed over it in favor of hotter projects but when Smith announced it was discontinuing these, I called Davidson's and snapped one up pronto. Certainly glad I did.
I carry it in a Galco Phoenix cross draw. Really nice. 44 Spcl is one of my favorites as well.

Why did S&W discontinue the 696? Not enough sales? I've always considered that model to be one of the better .44 Special compact revolvers on the market. The balance and feel is very good. I'm disapointed that its being discontinued.
