Hi guys, I just chrono'ed some stuff out of my S&W 340pd 1 7/8in .357 revolver.

Winchester 145gr Silvertip HP, 68deg day, using my new prochrono, using 5 shots (about all I can stand to shoot!)

I'll have to chrono some of my .38 +p reloads, and the Hornady 125gr .357 that I think I'd rather use while carrying.

I went to my P.D. Quals and after qualifying with 357Sig 9mm & .40 I decided to add my 340PD using 38spl 158 SWC after20 rounds the web of my hand split & I took myself out of the firing line. After finishing up I bought a new set of rubber grips. find out results next qual.

5rnds of 158gr .357 will cause damage to your hand also! Its just impractical for that gun. I think the 125gr .357 is in the realm of reality for me. Otherwise it shoots just about the same as the 442 with .38 +p loads. But when I got the gun used it came with some crimson trace grips that looked like it would mitigate felt recoil, but I switched back to the standard grips because they were smaller. I now think I'd like to switch back again.

Hornady 357 Mag 125 gr FTX Critical Defense, 59deg day, using 4 shots (one of the 5 didn't register, it was 1hr before sunset, therefore the ES and SD aren't that realistic)

My conclusions on the Winchester 145gr vs the Hornady 125gr .357 mag out of this gun: The 20 less grains of bullet weight in the Hornady only increased velocity on avg 33fps, but results in 50% less pain, and is much easier to handle.
