Could someone fill me in on the S&W model 37-2, Frame, cylinder, barrel material, and weight? The one I am looking at is the bobbed version without the lock and no mim, I think it is being distibuted by RSR. I also would like to thank KOR for his reply to my last thread, thanks for the technical info!!! And Thanks in advance for the replies.

Alloy frame. Steel cylinder and barrel. 3,777 early versions had an alloy cylinder. They are rare. Weight:12.5 ounces with a two inch barrel and steel cylinder.

MIM appeared in 1997.

Sevenbark - I picked up a couple of those 37-2s when they were more available. You are lucky to find one now. RSR had a lot them for a while but the last time I asked they were out. (I'm sure there are few floating around some shelf somewhere.) Blued steel, alloy-frame, approx 13+ ounces, bobbed hammer with hammer-mounted firing pin. They are the old-style "pre-magnum" frame and there has been a lot of discussion as to how much, if any plus P should be run through them. (I treat mine conservatively; they're too nice to needlessly abuse.) Of course, they are a pre-lock design. The ones I've seen and the ones I have a very well made. I'd be real tempted to get another if I ever come across one. Some folks load 'em with the new Speer 135 grain +P load (I think it is too hot for them) or other plus P's and practice with standard pressure. Others stick with Federal 125 Nyclads (out of production), Winchester Standard 110 Silvertips, Federal 110 Personal Defense. Many simply rely on standard pressure 158 semi-wadcutters figuring most loads don't expand from snubbies anyway. They're neat little revolvers but likely not as strong as the newer designs (which doesn't bother me).

I got one a year ago. It is a dynamite little J Frame. Just about the perfect pocket gun if carried in an appropriate pocket holster. I use 158 GR SWHP +P loads for carry, and practice with the same load in non +P straight SWC load. Works well for me.
