I am more of an autoloader guy, but I am planning to get a .38 revolver as a nightstand firearm, since my wife prefers revolvers.

I saw that a couple of used S&W 37s with 3" barrels were for sale at J&G. The S&W website just shows AirWeight 37s with 2" barrels. Are the 37s at J&G airweight, and, if not, what makes a 37?

Thanks

The Model 37 is also known as the Chief's Special Airweight.

3" ones aren't super common; I'd jump on one.

There were at least several thousand 3" square butt Model 37s made from the late 1950s until the 1987.

Many were apparently purchased by large city police forces to arm Detectives.

How much are they asking for them?

I'd be interested in one of the price is right...

Hum... Found them. $288.50. A little spendy.

I'd be more interested in the Model 12 that they've got...

Mike Irwin,

There were at least several thousand 3" square butt Model 37s made from the late 1950s until the 1987.

They made several thousand square-butt Chief's Special target models and several thousand 3" 624s and several thousand of many other guns that you just don't see very often, either. Hence the "not super-common" comment. ;) :p

The M37 has carrying advantages, but if your main use will be in the nightstand, why not get the steel frame M36 or M60 with three-inch bbl.? More will be available, and they'll take Plus P ammo better. They also kick less than an Airweight gun.

Lone Star,

That's a good idea. I just happened to see those advertised. I am not familiar enough with the different S&W model numbers. But I like the 3" barrel.

Thanks for everyone's comments.
