S&W 460 XVR Compensator

I am the proud owner of a new Smith 460 and have a question that does not seem to be addressed in the manual... The gun comes with two interchangeable compensators, and specifies one for use with lead bullets and the other for jacketed bullets. Although I can see the porting is different, my question is, why the difference?????(and would it be dangerous to confuse the two?) I don't mean to sound paranoid, and am a longtime M29 owner, but I am approaching this beast with caution!!!

There are two compensators, the one with the holes on the top by the front sight is for jacketed bullets, the other one is for the lead bullets. The reason they do not want you to shoot lead bullets out of the compensator with the holes on the top is, the compensator would be next to impossible to remove with lead in the top ports.

I shot lead and jacketed bullets out of the compensator made for the lead bullets with not problems at all. Also you can buy an end cap from S&W for the 460 Mag and do away with the ported compensator all together. That is what I did and it has a lot less muzzle flash.

No problem, my buddie also shoots his 460 with the end cap and loves it.

On Redhawk1's suggestion, I also picked up an end cap for my 5" .460, and I don't notice any difference in the felt recoil.
