Just purchased a S & W model52. I tried some S&B 38 wadcutter ammo. Ammo loaded ok into mag. Ammo fired ok and was accurate: However, the fired case would not eject, get jamed, catch between bolt face and top of barrel, every shot jamed. I can hand eject loaded ammo or empty cases without problem. The S&B ammo is 38 special wadcutter at 148 grs.

Anyone have an idea what is problem. Any suggestion of other commercial ammo that works>.

Thanks, SID

I only reload for mine so can't recommend ammo but you could also try a lighter spring.

Some guns are just picky eaters ... especially if they have been "improved". If you don't hand load you're going to have to try more than one brand of ammunition to find some that is compatible.

If you can't find reliable ammo you may have to have a qualified gunsmith take a look at it if for no other reason than to verify or re-establias factory specs.

I wonder if the Buffalo Bore .38 Special wadcutter could feed reliably.
That be one heck of a shooter heh.
Have you tried Federal Champion. If it's like their .32 S&W-L (which is loaded hot so it cycles in semi-autos) it should have more powder in it.

the standard 148 gr wadcutter is a target load for 38 revolvers

may not have enough pressure to cycle the action.gun was made to fire commercial type wad cutter ammo

I never heard that one before. Where did you get this information? My model 52 always fed any kind of factory ("commercial") 148 grain wadcutters without any problems. That's the load Smith & Wesson designed this pistol to work with. Bullseye shooting can get expensive in terms of factory ammunition costs, which is the reason I mostly handload for my target pistols.
I agree with Morgo in that you might want to try a lighter spring.

The M52 was designed for mid range loads, basically commerical wad cutter target loads. Don't try and feed them any heavy loads as they will not like it, i.e bye bye barrel.

Mine runs fine with 2.8gn of bullseye behind a 148DEWC

A poster on the S&W board said his M52-2 would not run on 2.7 gr B.E. and the usual 148 gr wadcutter, so he increased the load to 3.0 gr and it does fine.

Options are to try other brands of factory wadcutters or increase the reload a LITTLE.
Wolff makes springs for it and at that power level, half a pound of spring load will make a difference.
