Me and a buddy are heading to a show this weekend and as luck would have it I have a line on a mint 520. I have handled one before and like them alot so I am thinking of not letting this one go bye. Any 520 owners out there? How do you like them? Any pics. would be great. Thanks.

Oh yes a Model 520 Smith.I have one NIB.I have a letter from S&W about them. They were a special contract with NY State Police.Once production was started NY changed their minds.Without digging the letter out I believe they released somewhere around 1500- 2000 of these for sale to the general public. If I remember right total production was around 2500.I was working at a gun shop when this one came in. It never made it to the shelf. For those who aren't familiar with a Model 520. They were a "N' frame. They were a identical gun as the Model 58 in 41 mag. The 520's are chambered in the 357 Mag instead.Once again without digging the paperwork out I would estimate these were released in the late 70's possibly early 80's.

Litlman if you don't mind me asking? What were they asking for the 520 you saw.I've thought about selling mine.My dealer looked it up in Blue book of guns. I was surprised. I thought it would go for allot more. Seems to me he said around 350.00.That was a couple years ago.I'll keep it before it goes for 350.00.

Ruger Redhawk, People seem to be asking and getting a premium for these guns. From what I understand they are the new "cool" thing at this time, next to 3.5 in N frames or 3 in. K frames. If you put that 520 up for sale at $350 I don't think that It would last more than 5 miniutes before someone offered to take it off your hands. The price I can get it for is $550 NIB. Supply and demand!!!

You know, I don't know why I did not use the search function but I thought that I did and nothing came up so I popped in 520 just now and alot of stuff came up. Now I will go read the posts.

Redhawk-

Take another look at a M520. It looks like a fixed-sight version of the Model 28 Highway Patrolman, not the Model 58, which has no barrel lug.

OK Litlman,
Look at these pics again. They should hold you until Saturday when I let you fondle it again!

Ruger Redhawk, according to the Standard Catalog of S&W 3000 of the 520s were manufactured in 1980. None of these were delivered to the NYSP. All 3000 were sold to the general public.

Litlman thanks for the information. I figured they would be in the 550.00 or up range.

Lone Star,I might have been mistaken. It's been awhile since I saw a Model 58.I was under the impression they were the same except 357 vs 41mag.Anyway Randy63 posted a couple good pictures of a Model 520.Like mentioned I have a letter from S&W concerning these 520's.After all these years of not reading it ,important facts seem to fade away.
Thanks again for the information

Yeah Randy that looks just as clean as the one that I am looking at . I don't know how I am going to be able to resist adding it to my small collection. You are a bad influence!!! Thanks for the pics...
