New model S&W 520

Has anybody bought/rented/shot the new model S&W 520. I am looking to get in to pistols and I wanted a Revolver for my first. My only pistol experience is a 22 revolver growing up and my training with the M9 in the Army. But I grew up with lots of long arm experience. I know that most S&W have a good reputation but when I search for this one I can't find a lot of info. The main reason I want the 520 is so I can practice with .38S because its cheap and then move up to .357 when I feel comfortable. Any advice. Sorry if this has been posted in the past, I'm a new member.

I think the reason you don't find much on the model 520 is because it's a relatively new gun that has yet to gain wide exposure. While I don't own one I have handled them, and found them to be a solid, paractical revolver for the purpose you have in mind.

Do however, get the version that has adjustable sights. .38 Special and .357 Magnum cartridges often shoot to different points of impact.

I handled a slightly used one in a local shop a few months ago. Nice mid-size .357

IIRC... it was an L frame, 4" barrel, blued steel frame, two piece barrel, with an 7 shot titanium cylinder.
Came with a HiViz front sight and a "V" notch blade in the adjustable rear sight. Ahrens round to square butt conversion, finger groove grips.

Street price new is just over $500. I would have bought the one I saw, but couldn't get it for the price I wanted, so I passed.

Moon clips

I dont know much about revolvers. Can you use moon clips with the 520 or speed loaders. Thanks for the help.

It isn't set up for moonclips, and I'm not sure there are many folks who would be able to machine the Ti cylinder for them.

HKS makes the approprate speed loaders. Make sure you get the seven round ones for the S&W 686+. Basically the 520 is a 586 (the blued version of the 686) with a partial underlug. Some material changes too, but the essence of the situation.
