Scored this Smith & Wesson 638-2 revolver with no internal lock off Gunbroker for $400. It arrived today at my dealer:

The gun is in like-new mint condition. Not a scratch on it anywhere. If it weren't for a little bit of powder residue in the barrel and chambers which cleaned right out and a faint turn line, I would think it was unfired. It came with some Uncle Mikes boot grips but I had a set of new Dymondwood magna service stocks ready to go as I prefer how they look and conceal.

I bought this gun as a primary CCW piece after my Makarov pistol started to have malfunctions at the range on a consistent basis, which I'm unable to pin down the cause for. I used to carry a 642-1 no-lock several years ago but have since sold the gun and moved to autos. Well frankly I have had issues with the autos I've tried, and am going back to the snub nose revolver as my primary carry piece. I live in a pretty safe town and don't put myself into unnecessary risky situations. I personally think five shots of .38 special hollow points is just fine for my needs, and I will carry a Bianchi speed strip for reserve ammo.

Just thought I'd share. I should also mention this is one of my dream guns. When I bought the 642 no-lock, it was only because I couldn't find a 638 no-lock. S&W has not made 638 no-locks for over 15 years, and I was ever glad to find this one for a good price in pristine condition with the original box and paperwork. :)

Take care guys!

Nice revolver, I like the Bodyguard frame.

I would not get rid of those rubber grips. Those Uncle Mike's grips are no longer available and IMO very comfortable when shooting.

Nice S&W, cooldill! Old school j-frames are the best! Be safe and have fun. ;)
