I just stopped by my local dealer's shop and he just got in three crate loads of model 10s and model 64s. As I understand it they all are police trade-ins. The asking price for the 10s was $160 while the 64s were going for $190. The dealer let me look over all the revolvers and I picked out a tight model 64 with few scratchs and hogue grips. Is $190 a good deal and will the model 64 stand up +P ammo if used on a regular basis?

I think that it's a good deal.

I got one of those Model 10 police trade-ins a while back, and its a nice gun, has a pinned-barrel, a smooth action, and it locks-up tight.

When I use the M10 for defense, I use the +P, 158 grain LSWCHP's.

I've fired a few of them for practice, but most pf my shooting is done with the standard-pressure 158 grain round-nose lead, 158 grain LSWC's, or the 148 grain target wadcutters (most accurate for me).

The 130 grain ball is less accurate, and I use it mostly to keep the bore clean.

I paid more than that for my 64-4, but it was a cherry 2" tapered barrel with the box & docs.

Any time you find a good Smitty for less than two bills these days, it's a good deal.

Model 64 Smith for 190.00. I would say that's a good price.The discription you gave sounds like it's in good shape and well worth that money.My dealer was selling Ruger Security Sixes for 239.00 that were also retired police guns.I would practice with standard 38 spl loads. Carry the +P's for serious business.It's a "K" frame but the hot loads will eventually take their toll on it.
