Other than the finish issue reported on some of these, has anyone had any of the usual S&W revolver problems that the other models seem to have (timing, forcing cone, frame wear)?

I have shot 600 rounds in my 642 and I have not had any problems. The rounds have been a mix of target and full power +p rounds. I love how well it shoots in compairson to my 20 year old model 60.

I have the 642 with the Crimson Trace/S & W laser grips on it. The laser grips provide a nice grip that assorbs some of the recoil on the lighter frame gun.

I even slipped and fell into the water with it on me while fishing. I dried it out and cleaned it up. The only problem I had was on the laser grips. The laser would stay on when the master switch was on without pressing the laser button. The grips finally dried out good and no more problems.

I carry it mostly in a Desantis pocket holster in my front pocket.

I have a 442 and a 642. No problems with either. I'm told that if you shoot a lot of +P ammo through the Airweights, after 1,000 rounds or so, the frame can loosen up: but who's going to shoot 1,000+ rounds of +P for fun? :D

No problems with mine. Very accurate and realitivly comfortable to shoot for a small, light gun - even +P .38's.

Yea, but all and I repeat all my Falt!!!!! So in order to speed up the cleaning the little bugger I decided to, Ahem..... Use Gun Scrubber. Well.... Ya know the clear coat finish on the gun......Well...it kinda pealed up like a three day old sun burn.:banghead: But when I called smith they said they would fix it.

Took my new 642 to the range last night and am very happy with it. Only put some 75 rounds thru it- the 158 gr LRN Blazers shot high, but the 125 gr JSP shot closer to the POA. It is difficult to get tight groups even at 7yds. I'll experiment with some different ammo until I get the right combination. :)

I've had my 642 for about a month. I like it except that when I changed the grips to CT Laser I found some finish problems under the factory grips. It seems to be spreading to the area around the cylinder release and the lock.

Disappointed that a new S&W looks this bad already. The dealer said he would send it back for me. (I don't use Gun Scrubber. Would S&W use a finish that won't stand up to Hoppe's #9?)

I'm looking for another J-frame. I was going to get a 637, but I'm wondering if I want 2 revolvers with finish problems.

I've had my 642 for a few years and have over a 1000 rounds of mixed standard and +p loads. Aside from my hand feeling like it got hit by a baseball bat shooting 158gr +p loads it is a great carry gun. I carry it almost every day in a Mitch Rosen pocket holster. BTW, I use Crimson Trace grips, XS small dot night sights and an action job.
