I am the proud owner of a 442 and might upgrade to a 642 for when the weather is hazy, hot, and humid and the gun experiences much higher moisture levels riding in my pocket.

I know the S&W 642 has a stainless barrel, cylinder and an anodized aluminum frame. My question is, are the internal parts made of stainless as well?

Anyone know?

Unless something has changed, the lockwork consists of MIM parts that are case hadened and the rest made from regular steel. Taurus is much the same, but they flash-crome plate the hammer & trigger for added corrosion resistance. Smith & Wesson used to do this too, but I don't think they do so now.

A call to the Company customer service department might be more productive because things are always changing. Additional information will be found at: www.smith-wesson.com
