I am looking to purchase a Smith and Wesson 65 in .357 in Stainless for $350. The revolver has little wear, but dirty. Mechanically solid. I am new to the world of revolvers and their pricing. Is this a fair price? What is a fair price?

Yep, probably not too bad if it's really nice under the dirt.

BTW: All Model 65's are stainless.

If it wasn't stainless, it would be a blue Model 13.

I would think it would be a 13 too, except for one thing. I have been seeing a 65-2. It is not pinned. OTOH I have a 13-2 and is pinned. Make sense?

No.

Model 65's are stainless steel.
Model 13's are blued steel.

Pinned or un-pinned came at different model change years for the two models.

The blued Model 13-3 change in 1982 eliminated the pinned barrel and cylinder counter-bore.
A 13-2 should be pinned & recessed.

The stainless Model 65-3 change in 1985 eliminated the pinned barrel & cylinder counter-bore.
A 65-2 should be pinned & recessed.

Thanks RC, I will be investigating further. I did not look at the cylinder recessed area, just looked for a pin and did not see it, while gun was in the display case. I think that I saw an 65-2 on the crane but was squinting.

What is the barrel length??(measured from end of barrel to face of cylinder) ...if it's a 3" barrel it is a very desirable 65, and that price is dirt cheap.
still not a bad price for any longer barrel 65s that are in good working condition.

S&W revolvers prices can vary quite a bit for the same models with different barrel lengths.

I would buy it and clean it up. Shoot it. If you don't like it, you can get your Money out of it.
