Howdy,

Been looking for .357 revolver w/ 4' barrel to go with my .38 snub. It'll be a house gun, range gun, knock around gun, also just because I want a revolver in .357.

CDNN has .357 S&W Model 65's in excellent condition for $289 with walnut grips.

So what's the story on these?

I've searched, but I can't get the 65 to stick.

Thanks for any comments.

A great gun at a decent price. Probaly police trade-ins. The 3" M65 is one of the best carry guns out there but since youa re looking for a knockabout / range gun and you already have a .38 snub I would recommend that you try to find a 66 or 686 in a 4" barrel. The adjustable sights will be useful when switching in between loads and will provide more fun at the range. 0.02$

Around here, used 3" M-65 round butts are reaching the $400 level.

This may well be one of the best carry revolvers ever made, they shoot great and are completely idiot proof. Loaded with full pressure Federal or Rem 125 gr. JHPs, they do what sig .357 dreams about and what .45 ACP would like to do.

Legendary guns in Phoenix are advertising
M-15's and M-19's for $235.00 and $285.00.
I haven't looked at any and they are police
trade in's according to Legendary guns.

MOdel 65 @ CDNN

Guys - Where is this MOdel 65 in CDNN catalog? I just downloded the catalog and can't find it? Do I have to call for it?

JP

Page 14 or 16, I think. They're near the middle or bottom of the page. I bought one of the last five 3" guns they had. They're out of those now. Probably still have some 4" guns because they're less in demand.

Yeah, I saw the 3', but want a 4'.

Sounds like I might want to jump on it.

Thanks for the legendary guns thought, I may have to go and check those out.

Deanimator, what was the condition of the gun?

Haven't gotten it yet. FFL lost a day thinking I wanted him to FIND one when I TOLD him CCNN had them. I called and payed for it in time to get one of the last five. The ad says, "Like-New or Excellent". A few people have posted pictures of them. The ones I've seen were BEAUTIFUL. They're a matte stainless. They're out of 3" guns now.

I don't know anybody who's bought a 4".

65

the 65 is the stainless version of the 13...
the 3 inch 13 was FBI issue at one time...
the 65 is one of the excellent revolvers
S&W for some unfathomable reason has
sentenced to oblivion in favor of its new
shrouded barrel bean counter items.
think it is wise to grab them while you
can...check for damage around the
forcing cone in the cone AND frame area
this was the principal weakness when
too heavily used with full 357 loads.

A 4" model 65 is a GREAT all-arounder. The 66 is a great one, too. Personally, I like the shrouded ejector of the 66 vs. the exposed one on a 65 but I prefer the fixed sites on the 65 to 66's adjustables. (I guess I need one of each!) If I had to choose one of the two for myself, I'd go with the 65.

You are in luck Jim, S&W made a model 65 with a shrouded ejector. What you want is an S&W model 65 Ladysmith.

Model 65 - CDNN

Hi Guys. I still can't find the model 65's in the CDNN catalog. Are you all looking at a printed catalog or the catalog you download from their webpage?
Pages 14 and 16 do not have the 65's? Am I looking at the wrong catalog (Catalog #: 2006-4).

JP

As others have said--great guns! I have a 3" that I carry daily and a 4" in the range bag. You can't go wrong with the 65.

I have a 3 inch 65 and they are great revolvers. I got mine about 18 months ago for $275 so your price should be right in line. The only problem I had was finding a holster for it. It took me several months but I found one at Desantis. I carry this revolver from time to time and feel very good about it. Go for it you won't be sorry.

I ran across a 3" 65-5 a while ago in a small pawn/gun/tool shop and bought it for a song. It has been concerted to DAO and had a trigger job done by the S&W Performance Center. This is one sweet shooter and extremely accurate with Winchester Silver Tips.

Telli97, it's listed on page 16 of the 2006-4 CDNN catalog. There's a 3" 65 with rubber grips for $299 and a 4" with target wood grips for $289.
