Been shooting alot of IDPA with cast bullets .358/150gr SWC with 3.5 gr. Bullseye.....last Tues and today I had several jams. Cases, l per incident, failed to eject and got stuck under ejection star. I cleaned the cyl. and under the star with toothbrush and Hoppes. Everything looked nice and clean and then tonights shooting produced two more jams. What should I be looking for. Cast bullets plus Bullseye is an accurate, but pretty dirty combo. When it comes to IDPA, where consistent & quick reloads are important, I use a cleaner load, such as a plated bullet, and Clays.
Nonetheless, cases stuck under the ejector is fundamentally a technique issue. A wimpy ejection stroke and a muzzle that doesn't get near-vertical are the usual culprits. Dirty chambers and match pressure simply amplify the effect.
Practice your reloads at home with dummy rounds. Importantly, start each reload cycle with 6 empty cases in your gun (I'll often use dirty non-resized .357mag cases). Get the muzzle nearly vertical (slightly forward so as not to risk a muzzle violation). Look at the back of the ejector as you start ejecting. Feel that ejector bottom out, and see those cases drop free.

I have switched from the Massoud Ayoob stressfire style of ejecting by hitting the ejector rod with the palm of hand to the inverting gun and using the thumb to push the ejector rod. Alot faster but maybe with the shorter ejector rod on the 3" guns its not as positive......Could I have a mechanical problem with a bent or worn star or ejector rod where the case isn't positively getting ahold of the case rim??? Had been working ok for the last 500 rds or so.afish4570:banghead::banghead:

It's not against the rules, but the conversion will take you from Stock Service Revolver (SSR) to Enhanced Service Revolver (ESR) with Power Factor floors of 105k and 165k, respectively.
The ejector rod on a 3" gun is still long enough for positive ejection.
Try switching back to the stressfire technique. If there's a mechanical issue with the ejector, you'll still get cases stuck. If it's been an issue with your thumb technique, you won't.
Compared to a palm eject, the thumb can quickly learn to become relatively lazy, which is why it's good to practice reloads at home with empty cases in the gun.
