S&W 686 Problem

Hello. I just picked up a used 686 for my first revolver, but there is a problem with the cylinder. At least I think it's the cylinder. When I pull the hammer back, the cylinder spins to the first 3 chambers fine. The next 2 I have a hard time pulling the hammer all the back, and the last one I can't pull back without helping the cyl. along manually. I bought this knowing it had this problem, but it was a good deal. At least I hope it was. Any ideas what would be causing this problem? Thanks.

Several reasons:

First, use a stiff brush to brush out the underside of the ejector and its seat in the rear of the cylinder.
Any grit or burned powder trapped there can cause still rotation on 2 or 3 chambers.
This grit can embed, so scrub really well.

Other problems are bent ejector rods, sprung cylinder yokes, damaged ejectors, or other physical damage.

I just recently bought a 28-2 that did the same thing after I sprayed it down with a bunch of #9. I actually took off the cylinder and cleaned each parts it 150 degree water. when I was done there was no grease or anything left on any part of the cylinder or extractor. I put it back together and now it works completely perfect. Others might tell you not to take it apart like that but now I know how mine works and how to safely take it down. I have to take everything apart that I own though. If you are the type of guy that cant put them back together then maybe just make sure you clean it well.
