I just bought a new Taurus 85 Ultralight. When the hammer is down I can spin the cylinder with a little force. Almost like the cylinder stop is holding the cylinder very lightly but will let the cylinder spin if you grasp it and apply a little force. The stop doesn't seem to be hanging up, but just doesn't hold the cylinder in place very tight when the hammer is down. When cocked the cyl is locked up super tight and has very little play, seems perfect. Just freaks me out that I can spin it to the next chamber without opening the cyl or at least bringing the hammer back a bit. I've spun it halfway between chambers and cocked the hammer and it always lines up and locks up perfect. Don't remember any of my other revolvers doing this. Any suggestions?

Probably a weak cylinder stop spring is not raising the cylinder stop fully into the notch. When you cock the hammer, the condition goes away because the cylinder stop is cammed upward. The cure in this case is a new cylinder stop spring. You might take this occasion to swap out all your springs with Wolff gunsprings -- cheap and does wonders for most revolvers. Or you could contact your dealer or Taurus directly with your complaint.

After inspecting the cylinder stop it seems that the side that is giving me a problem has a slight bevel to it. Nothing major but noticeable if you're really looking. The edge that contacts the cylinder just isn't as sharp as the other side. Looks as if it had been filed on that side. Problem is, can't find a place that sells replacement parts to the general public.

When you say "the hammer is down" do you mean the gun is at rest, or do you mean you pull the trigger all the way back, let the hammer come down, and keep the trigger back? Because the lockup when the trigger is back and the hammer down (as in, the primer just went off, and the bullet is about to come flying out) is what's really important.
