I scored this blaster Friday at my favorite pawn shop. It’s a 686 SS 3 3/8” barrel. The grip panel has 1984 stamped on the inside in black ink.

It’ been calling my name very quietly ever since I bought it’s neighbor a blued S&W mod 29-2 8 3/8” barrel recently.

It hasn’t been shot a lot and it’s in really good condition. I looked at it every trip I stop by the pawn shop to see what’s new in the counter. The tag had $700 marked and the best I figured I could do was ~$100 less. Not a great deal but ok price.

Well back up to Thursday… when I was there, there was a summer sale sign on the counter, rifles 30% off, so I asked Valerie if is it possible that this would apply to handguns as well. She says yes it could apply to handguns too. So Friday I go with enough pictures of Ben Franklin to make it mine. I ask Valerie if we’re still good for the 30% on handguns and if so I’ll be taking the S&W. She checks with the owner and gets the ok for just a little less than 30% (they had to counter just because of principle) and the price is just over $500. I countered to the next lowest $5 amount of $515 and it was mine :D The owner said I mostly got the deal since I’m such a good customer. Valerie says when ringing me up, wow, you have bought a lot of guns from here. I said yep, when the price is good and it’s something I’m looking for I usually buy.

This pawn shop has always been good to me a guns are priced fairly, if of course you know how to negotiate to the appropriate price

Haven’t got to take it out to shoot yet, worked on the house all day yesterday and today am too busy. I figure it will be a good time to take it out on the 4th of July and celebrate a little independence :)

Looks in great condition , that is a good price these days. I've owned 686s in 2 1/2" , 4" and 6" but never in the 8 3/8". I bet that will be one hec of a shooter! Let us know how it shoots.

Took it out shooting

Well it's been out for a little blasting. Put a little over 50 rounds thru it and it shoots really well. With a little practice I should do much better. Needs one cylinder bore de-burred where the brass hangs up. Other than that it shot flawlessly.

Here's a couple target pics...

Another bonus of the 8 3/8 inch barrel is the velocity gain over the 6 incher.

Had an 8 3/8 inch Model 14 that could throw .38 spl 158 grain LSWC at more than 1000 fps. Max velocity through my 6 inch 686 was 850 fps for the same load.

The 8 3/8" 686 is one of the most pleasurable guns that I've ever shot.

A friend has one. They're not easy to come by.

You scored a nice one!
