S&W 908s Comparison Shots?

I am seriously considering selling my 2nd Gen G17 in order to buy a Smith 908s. I don't use the Glock for anything but guarding the safe, so it's not really going to be missed.

A local dealer can get me a 908s for $435, out the door. This will be used for a carry gun, and I like the heavy first shot and manual safety.

I am unable to fondle a new 908s, but have handled a 3913, they are basically the same gun, right?

Does anyone have any comparison pictures of the 908 or 908s beside other guns? I am particularly interested in grip length and width (at the grip, and slide width).

If you've got any pictures or raw data for me to compare, please post. I would also be interested in the pros and cons of the 908 or 908s as experienced by owners or shooters of said gun.

Also, if anyone wants a G17 (w/NFML 17 rounder & 2 10 rounders), I'll probably be selling one for.......you guessed it, $435.

Thanks. I ran a search before I opened this thread, read most of them, and only saw 1 picture, which is very similar to the one that S&W shows, a simple side view (very good quality though).

I was hoping that some others with DIGI-CAMS and an SW 908 could take a few shots comparing the S&W grip and slide widths with those of other well know autos, i.e. Glock, Kahr, Sig, etc.

I am figuring that the 908 would be about as thin as a 3913, but would like to see before I put the G17 up for sale.

S&W 908s (stainless) is the "value" version of the 3913 (without the ambi safety and the tactical rail). Based on the similarity to the 3913, it is a good CCW if you train with it. However, the 908s manual of arms is different from the G17, in that it has a combo manual safety / decocker on the slide, so that is one reason why you would need to CCW train with it.

Other than plastic sights, and a plastic guide rod, what is the difference between the "Value" series and the regular series? I assume that the steel is the same for both the "Value" and regular models.

Both the 3913 and the 908 (matte) / 908s (stainless) have aluminum alloy frames, the 908 has a matte carbon steel slide, and matte finish on the alloy frame, the 3913 and the 908s have the stainless slide and polished alloy frame.

A friend of mine has the 3913 and the 410 (.40 S&W version of the full size 910). The 3913 is accurate, has a nice SA and DA trigger, and is as reliable as the day is long. The 410 also has the plastic rear sight and guiderod you mentioned, and has been trouble-free.

Another difference is the number of machining steps and finishing. Take a look at the frame and slide contours of a 908 compared with a 3913/3914. I suspect this accounts for much of the difference in price.

It looks like I'd be paying $435 for a square framed 3913 with single sided safety, plastic sights and guide rod then.

Sounds good to me. Now if only I can sell this glock.
