I have aquired a model 910 pistol. Right now if you jack the slide the mag catch falls on the ground. I have determined that it is the recoil guide rod. It is missing that little point on it. Also am wondering if that would cause the pistol not to dry fire when I pull the trigger. Does anyone know if these also have a internal child saftey or somthing. The trigger operates when it is dissasembled. Thanks in advance.

I'm a bit confused, so I'm going to ask some clarifying questions.

When you say the mag catch, do you mean the part the holds the mag in the gun...the mag release?

..are you saying that it is secured in the gun until you pull the slide to the rear...rack the slide?

...how did you determine that it was caused by the recoil guide rod?

...if you are referring to the rod that is surrounded by the recoil spring, it has no interaction with the magazine or the magazine catch

...I'm not sure which point it might be missing, can you post a picture?

...nothing on the guide rod has anything to do with the trigger's operation

...are you trying to dryfire without a mag inserted?...the S&W semi-automatics come equipped with a magazine safety which prevents the gun from firing when a mag is not inserted

...did your gun come with the owners manual and have you read it?...all these things are cover in the manual

Oh Geeze Im sorry I messed up it is the slide catch that falls out. Also it dry runs fine with the mag in it sorry if I wasted your time.

Well, your slide stop shouldn't be falling out at all, because it is what retains your slide/barrel in the frame.

You can try a different recoil spring guide rod or you can call S&W on Monday and see it they'll either send you a new one or have you send it the gun to be checked out.

I've never heard of this happening with a Gen 3 S&W before and I'm sure the factory would be interested in what is causing your problem

The little "tip" rests in a notch in the slide release/barrel pivot pin. I agree, you probably just need a new guide rod. I'd inspect the pin for damage too. Is the slide release hold down spring intact?
