Recently I bought my first S&W 686-6 Plus.
It is an excellent gun! Pleasure to shoot.
There was only one little thing that bothered me - wooden grips did not fit well. Tightening the screw did not help.
I made some pictures showing a sizable gap between stocks and emailed them to S&W Customer service.

In less than two weeks I got a set of new stocks. Needless to say they fit perfectly. Thumbs up for Smith & Wesson's crew!
That's how you stand behind your brand!

There is recent poll under General Gun Discussion regarding fairness of the gun pricing. Yes, guns are not cheep but considering the service some manufacturers provide, I would say they are fair.

I've heard nothing but good things about S&W's customer service...it's nice to know an American gun manufactuer is so responsive to customer issues.

1KPerDay,
I neither asked nor prefered red-colored grips. I just did not feel comfortable to mention it to Customer Service. Do you think I should:confused:

No, I think they did well by you, but I would consider refinishing them. Some dark walnut stain might work wonders. :)

Old Fuff,
I have to agree with you. Now, have you done refinishing like this before? Do I need to prepare grips by sanding off the surface, or should I just stain them over?
Thanks,

Fantastic, they just replaced the barrel, tunned the trigger and paid the freight on my 617-6. It was a warrantee repair and I had it back in 7 days from the day I shipped it. It was returned in perfect condition.

Don't sand them..., and if you simply apply stain to the existing finish it won't work, IMO. Use any good quality wood finish stripper. Once you're back to the "real" wood color, refinish with a darker stain if desired and any sealer you like. If the wood were dark enough for me I'd probably just use some carnuba wax. Your first grips were a lovely color.

IMO.

Good for smith for doing right by you.
