A pre-Model 27 from 1955.

A 38/44 Outdoorsman,early post war.

And a kind of lineage photo, the 38/44 Outdoorsman and a Model 27. Sort of father and son to show those who do not know that the Model 27 evolved from the 38/44 Heavy Duty Outdoorsman which was in a high speed 38special loading.

Waitin' on two of those 27's, they sure are nice.....anyone besides me think that modern revolvers are complete POS's compared to even 20 years ago? They work alright for the most part, but no soul.

Here's my much beloved 38/44 Outdoorsman...

The more and more I shoot it the more and more I love it, it's a little loose after close to 50 years of service but it's still one heck of an accurate handgun and I shoot it the best out of anything in my collection.

When I compare it to other 38/44's I am very thankful that the thing has managed to retain as much bluing as it has, it's got one or two slight scratches in it though from my youth. Was hopping a barbed wire fence and forgot to lash the gun down, as I got to the other side of the fence it lept out of the holster :( But it is still in very fine shape.

Yeah, I still have the original diamond magna grips for it too. I prefer the larger target grips though for my chewbacca like hands.

I would simply kill to get a 6 1/2 inch barreled 5 screw Pre-27 to keep my 38/44 company, it only seems fitting to give it a proper sibling.

Until then, my S prefix 28-2 with 6 inch barrel will have to do.

Albert - no can compete ... but enjoying seeing these items of great beauty. Just a tad of lust and a morcel of envy!!:) So nice tho to see preservation of a heritage.

Gives me an excuse I guess to again post my M27-2 ... Circa 1976.

Good God.......

I owned a 5" 27 and a 6" 28 at one time.

I sold 'em of course. I had to buy some othe gun that had huge prominenance then, but none now.

But I'm holding on to these two:

Chris, its not a competition. If you have one( and you do have one of the classics) then the line has been preserved. Keep those cylinders turning my friend!

P95Carry...

"FPrice ... gotta ask ..... just what IS that finish?? It looks very ''matt'' and very black ..... has it been refinished?"

Yes, it was refinished somewhere along the line. I sent off for a history letter from Roy Jinks about this pistol. It was sold in 1955 in Waco (I think) Texas. Someone had it parkerized (fairly good job it seems) and that was one of the appeals this firearm had for me. I have the original grips but these Pachmyers fit it better in it's present state, plus help with shooting. I do NOT like the old skinny S&W grips.

Saxon Pig, Tamara, Fprice

What is the barrel length on those? 3"?

Thanks

-Mike

Fprice ... quite overlooked thanking you for info re finish .... that makes sense ..... has that ''Parkerized'' look ... and it's a finish I like very much.

Skinny S&W grips?! Me too ... not my cup of tea! Like something I can get hold of ....... as they say!:p

I'm glad that I can enjoy images like these for free. Ya'll are killing me....but thanks!

Ah. 3.5", gotcha. Thats a very nice barrel length, proportion-wise. I have a M28 with a 4" barrel that doesn't look half as nice as that.

I wonder if a rebarreling would be worth doing...the gun was already refinished, so the collector value is diminished... You know...the random thoughts of a diseased mind. ;) :D
