I haven't been able to find the exact answer to my questions about detachable flip-up sights. I know that there is a difference between the heights of the rails/gas block, but I don't know what exactly I need.

The rifle is a S&W M&P15 ORC (no sights at all are attached).

What type (as far as height) of flip-ups should I be looking for? Are the rails on this 'standard' height or do I need something different?

Thanks!

Your M&P-15 ORC has a rail-height gas block rail... if that makes sense. So you need to buy a front sight that is sized to fit on a railed foregrip.

I also have an ORC, and put a RRA standalone rear sight assembly on the flat top rail. On the gas block I mounted a DD rail mounted fixed front sight. It works, but the front sight hangs over either the front or back of the gas block, depending on where I place it... kind of a bummer, but like I said, it works well enough.

I don't really have any suggestions for flip sights, but good luck in your search!

You might want a metal front sight. The gas block might get hot enough to melt the MBUS front sight.

As Gtscotty said, the gas block is rail height. Any rail mounted front sight will work.

Troys are expensive, but great stuff.
Midwest Industries makes good sights.
YHM has some ok sights.

I ran MBUS for quite a while. They never gave me a problem. I was putting thru 120 rounds as fast as she would run them. Under normal shooting they should not fail. Under 200-300 rounds in a fully auto with no break between magazine changes and they might...might...
