Honestly I love my M&P40 and have put about 6k rounds through it since I got it earlier this year. I had to send it back to have the mag release replaced but other than that its been problem free.

The gun feels good in the hand, has very minimal muzzle flip, accurate and after a few hundred rounds the trigger smoothed out nicely.

I got mine new for $513 and it came with a holster, mag pouch and three 14rd mags. Its my dedicated ccw and as far as I'm concerned its a keeper, the lifetime warranty is also a nice thing to have.

shot a buddy's a few weeks ago, and loved it. shot it better (3" at 25 yds.)on the first mag than i do my witness 10mm (which i have 1500 rounds through and am quite comfortable with). liked it so much that I decided to buy the MP 9, compact for CCW. just picked it up today, but haven't had a chance to shoot it yet.

Love it!!! I've had mine a year now, and except for some jams on flat-point hand-loads that were just a touch too long, I have not had a singe fail-to-fire, nor fail-to-feed with factory ammo, since I bought it. I'm at about 2K rounds now. No mag-drops, or rust. Easy to hold, easy to shoot. If you buy one, put 5-800 rounds through the gun before complaining about the gritty trigger, it's just how it is. It smooths out, or you can send out for a trigger job. Also, the best customer service in the business, AND IIRC, Smith has another freebie deal on. Many have said it feels a lot different from other 40 cals, and that it doesn't have as much snap to it.

Let me put it this way, I don't think I've run into a single person who has hated it, and I've heard at least one gun-store's range guy tell a renter that most people who rent their M&P buy one.

Pssst! You can fit a 15th round in those mags. Trust me on this. ;)

Mike :D

I love my M&P40. It has 2600 flawless rounds through it - and the first 880 were done without any cleaning. I have another gun that is more easily carried, but it can't hold a candle to the M&P40 in terms of reliability (even though it is very reliable), accuracy, comfort in use, capacity, trigger, durability, or anything else related to shooting.

The M&P 40 using the medium back strap is the best shooting pistol I have fired over the years. mine has been through several hundred factory rounds and 1500 reloads without a hiccup. it will be my carry gun if I every get off my butt and get to the class. as a secondary function it guards meat and potatoes.
