S&W M&P 5 screw hand ejector question

I got this revolver from an estate for $75 cause the cylinder latch was sticky. A little kroil cleaned the crud out and it works fine now, tight and no endshake. Had pachmayer presentation grips on it (yuck). Is there a Smith nut out there that can tell me which variant this is and what stocks are the correct ones and where can I start searching for replacements? It is also nickel, is that a rare thing or not? Ser# is 3693XX

Congratulations. Your gun as you noted is a S&W .38 Special Hand Ejector Military & Police Model of 1905, 4th Change. It falls in the serial number range of 1915-1942 which is 241704-700000. If I'm reading my reference correctly, Standard Catalog of S&W, 3rd Edition, the square butt which yours is, is scare compared to the round butt (worth double the value). The nickle finish, if original is all so worth a premium. The 4th change started around serial# 316648 so yours isn't too far into that model. Grips could be either hard rubber or walnut with a diamond around the grip screw and gold S&W monograms. HTH

I bought my grips on ebay just remember to get square but k-FRAME grips. They go for around 40-60 bucks.

Finding replacement stocks will be easy. Finding the correct ones won't be.

Smith & Wesson offered the Military & Police model in square and round butt versions. The square butt always had checkered walnut stocks. The round butt usually had molded, black, hard-rubber stocks - but some were fitted with checkered walnut. Most were blued, but nickel plate wasn't unusual.

If someone doesn't beat me to it I'll try to dig up a picture of the right stocks.
