This morning I saw a 6" S&W M14/K-38(?) on sale for $275. The M14 was probably 96%-98% condition, and had an silky smooth trigger. I don't have the extra cash until friday (just bought a car a few weeks ago), so I've got my fingers crossed that it will still be there on friday. :uhoh:

I'd appreciate any additional info or opinions on the M14. Thanks.

Back in 1985 I bought a S&W M14 and never regretted it. I shot bullseye with it and this gun won some matches.

Do not miss out on it! The price is definitely not bad.

I have one that My father bought new in 76 K14-3 and now that I have shot many revolvers I now know that this is by far one of the smoothest trigger guns that I have shot. I would jump on it if it was You.

I can't see how you could go wrong. If you want a 6" revolver chambered for .38 Special that is certainly one of the best ever made.

I own one in 8 3/8". I don't shoot it much: I bought it for nostalgia.
One of the first handguns I ever bought with my own money was an 8 3/8" Model 14. This is also what I owned when I started the hobby of handloading. I still lived at home with my parents. Every night, after work, if the weather cooperated, I would take out my Model 14 along with 100 rounds of ammunition and shoot. Every evening, I would sit in the basement and load those 100 cases using a Lee Loader. I used bullets that I bought in gallon paint cans and an 8 pound keg of Bullseye that my uncle gave me. I only owned 100 cases, so I shot and loaded the same cases every night.

$275 is a pretty good price for a great gun. IIRC... I paid around $250 for this one, but that was about 3 years ago.

Their reputation as fine target guns is well deserved.

Good Luck...

nero45acp...

I don't have the extra cash until friday (just bought a car a few weeks ago), so I've got my fingers crossed that it will still be there on friday.

My advice is to either:

1. Go back there right now and put some money on it to hold it,

or,

2. Tell me where it is and I'll go buy it right now! :D

These are some very fine target revolvers, it would be a shame if this one escaped you.

I tried to put $100 down to hold it until friday, but they wouidn't do it. :banghead:

I'll just keep my fingers crossed until friday. If it is sold, I console myself by buying a Ruger's 50th Anniversery New Model Blackhawk as soon as they are available. (Though I'd rather have the M14.)

Consignment sale.

I was suprised and not too pleased that they wouldn't hold it for 4 days with $100 down. :banghead:

I just picked up a Model 14 last month from a co-worker who was selling for his grandfather. He took it to a couple of gunshops and nobody wanted to do a consignment or even offer more than $200 cash. When he cambe back to the shop and told me what he found, I grabbed it from him for the $200 and he even threw in a very nice shoulder holster.

Mine is about 90-95% with the original wood grips, and it doesn't really look like it had been fired a lot. There is some bluing rubbed on the sides of the muzzle but that probably from the holster. Shoots great for a 40-year-old revolver.

Buy IT!!!!!

I bought a 99% 6" S&W14-3 two years ago. It has the smoothest action of any of my revolvers, including S&W PCs, and is a tack drive. I paid $350.00 but it was worth it.

One more day until I have sufficent cash to buy it. My fingers are still crossed. I'll post tomorrow afternoon to let you'll know if it was still there.

Happy Day! :D

I picked up the M14 today! Other than some very light holster(?) wear of the bluing at the muzzle, and the normal cylinder line it's in minty condition. I can't wait to get it to the range.
I don't have a digital camera, but I took a picture of it with one of those disposable cameras. I'll have the film developed this weekend and put onto a CD to download to my computer. Then I'll post a pic of it.

Well I had my pics developed and unfortunately they're pretty poor. Guess I never be mistaken for a photographer. Sorry for the poor quality.
