The Standard Catalog of The Smith and Wesson Second edition states that some early model 60-9 J frames do not have MIM parts.

I spent some time tracking down the 60-9 since its one of the few J frames that can shoot .357s but does not have the dreaded lock.

How can I tell whether my trigger and hammer are MIM or standard? Can a non-MIM trigger and hammer be ordered? I can only find the MIM stuff at Brownells.

Thanks.

The MIM trigger will have a groove on the back (deep!, can't miss it!)

A MIM hammer will have pockets on the sides. IIRC, you will have to remove the sideplates to see them.

It look like I have a MIM hammer and trigger...

Anyone know of a source for non-MIM S&W parts?

You can't just replace MIM parts with their predecessors; they are differently designed parts.

On the other hand, you can shoot a gun with MIM parts without worrrying about them. They work; and in the rare instance when they don't work (some guns have always broken, before and after MIM), S&W will fix them.
