I was reading the manual that came with my new PPK/S made by S&W. Now I know that technically it is a Walther pistol but made under license by S&W. I still figured that the warranty would be covered by S&W especially after the recall that came out. The pistols went back to S&W for those repairs. However in my manual the warranty is by Walther. And good for one year. If my pistol needs servicing I have to send it back to them and not S&W.

To me it seems like they should've let S&W handle the warranty as they are the ones that built it. What do you guys think?

S&W IS Walther USA. I recently had to send in a P99 that I bought in 2001 for a broken extractor. S&W determined that the pistol could not be repaired because the frame rails were bent. They replaced the P99 with a PPS, eight years later.
Walther has no presence in the US, S&W handles all the warranty work and does an excellent job.

For clarity, are you saying you sent a malfunctioning Walther P99 to S&W for warranty work. S&W determined they couldn't fix the problem and instead of sending you a new P99, it took them 8 years to get around to sending you a PPS as a replacement?

Think he meant he had the pistol for 8 years, the extractor broke, sent it in and they replaced his P99 with the PPS. Otherwise I don't think he would be saying that S&W does an excellent job. At least that is how I read it.:)

Aww darn it. You know what? Having just bought this gun new I did not think to ask if this pistol was subject to the recall. I just checked the serial number and mine is good to go!

The after recall PPK/s have been out several months. Keep you warranty info. S&W PPK/S are still somewhat hit and miss on reliability. Smith does fix and pays for shipping if needed.
