Ok, I have a shot at buying this gun, an unfired, pinned, model 10-5 5" pencil barrell pistol for $329.... is that a good deal?

Not a good deal unless it's something you really, really want. I was at a dealers today that sold two S&W M15's for $199.00. No they wasn't new in the box but they were in excellent shape. I think you can find one cheaper if you look a bit .................

In most places, that would be a $100 premium for "unfired" condition vs 98-99%. Whether that is a good deal is up to you.

I would pass.

It seems high, but there is an amazing variation in prices across the country.
I think the barrel length is unusual, 4" and 6" are more of what you will find.
See if the guy will get more realistic about the price.

I recently paid four and a half for a M&P blue 5" NIB. If that gives you any kind of comparison. It goes to the safe, not to the range. I have been told the 5" is not as common as some of the other barrel lengths.

If you intend to shoot the gun do not buy it as what to me is an excessive price is based on suppossed "newness". Shot it and loose value. For a shooter it's better to have a revolver a with a little wear that sells for $200.
