S&W Model 13

I always preferred the heavy barrel Model 10 and Model 13; the extra weight out front gave them the feeling of being perfectly balanced in my hand. Would love to find a round butt 3" Model 13.

I have a Model 13-3 4" barrel and I love it. It's my nightstand gun and the gun I set up my house guests with (if they don't bring their own.) It is a pure joy to take to the range and do some plinking with .38s. Really one of the best gun purchases I ever made. It's my wife's favorite gun.

I need to get a lever gun in .357 to compliment it.

I'll bet you heard that in LGSs and they were trying to seel you something else they had in their display case.

The M13, along with the Ruger Speed-Six, is my personal favorite .357mag to use as a carry gun. The four inch model that you have was the last revolver that was issued to me before our department changed over to auto-loaders.

The 3" barreled, round-butted model is especially sweet, as was the model chambered for the 9mm (M547)

Many police departments felt the .357 magnum was too powerful

for police duty use, especially in cities, and preferred to stick with the Model 10 or Model 15 .38's. The Model 13 is extremely popular with anyone who has one or who has shot one.
To me, they are a real gunfighter's revlover-nothing "extra", nothing to go wrong, and reliable in the extreme...and capable of using the magnum round when you feel the need. Hard to beat that.

Yes, the heat treating is different, and the frame of the M13 is stronger. I think the rifling in the bore is a bit different, too.

I just put a deposit on a nearly pristine 13-3, 3" round butt. I've been looking for one for a long time, and don't have the cash, but I couldn't let it get away. Now, just to pay off the layaway.

Color me excited!
