S&W Model 15-6 -- Before and After

Brethren,

Some of you may recall that I came upon a Model 15-6 in the consignment section for $189.00 at Don's Weaponry in Little Rock, AR. I was able to find an FFL dealer that would take a transfer to CO for $25.00 so I jumped on it (For more details, check the drama of "the $50 FFL fee" -- http://www.thehighroad.org/showthread.php?t=576212). I was not smart enough to take a before photo so I will post the photo that I took in the store as I was considering whether or not to buy it. When I finally got it home I cleaned it up (the bore was surprisingly clean). And I tackled the rust with some Flitz Polish. I also waxed it with Flitz Wax but it turns out that the wax did not take too well after the polish because the polish adds a coat. Then I replaced the grips as this will be on Home Protection duty. I like how she came out. Tell me what you think.

When I lived in Little Rock a few years ago, I used to stop by there often. They do have a good selection of used milsurps, and LEO/Security Guard trade ins.

Looks excellent, I'll keep the Flitz polish in mind if I come across some old guns like that. For $215 something you got an excellent firearm that looks pretty to boot.

Because of this purchase my S&W revolvers now outnumber my Ruger revolvers (I have realized that I do not despise S&W revolvers; I dislike the new ones. The older ones are great!) I still prefer Ruger; I guess I will need to find a Redhawk .44 Mag 4" bbl in the near future.

I was looking for a Model 10 that could sit in a drawing until called upon (god forbid). I stumbled upon the mother-load at Don's; they had about 25 Ruger GP100's, S&W Model 10's and 15's, and they had some Tauruses as well. I realized that I prefered the Model 15 because of the adjustable sights. I knew from experince that Flitz (used carefully and sparingly) would remove the rust and bring a polish to the bluing (or the metal, I can't tell -- I just know it looks good). If you look carefuly you will notice a really bad rust spot at the front of the bbl. I had to polish it quite a bit until I was down to the metal. That was the only way to remove the rust. Now it just look likes holster wear (which is what it was in the first place). Now a trip to the range for a function test and she is ready to go.

Good deal I almost got 1 myself but went with the Ruger Gp 100 in 38 spl. $249 for a 4 inch half lug barrel 38 spl only. Love the gun what a great shooter.

The Magnas are too small for my hand. I am counting on this gun for home protection so I need for it to be comfortable in the hand.
