Hi everyone,

Has anyone else here owned a model 1500 S&W Rifle? I had one several years back in .300 magnum. It was a nice rifle and topped off with a Nikon scope. It was one of the best looking rifles I had. Nice finish on stock...beautiful!

I used it several hunting seasons here in east and out west. It was ported which I hated...ended up cutting it off and recrowning barrel.

Shot very nice though. Very Accurate! I sold it to a friend a few years back, He took it out west for Elk hunts. As I recall I believe it said Made in Japan on it? Anyway they seem to be scarce and was just curious if anybody has one or seen them before.

Merry Christmas

Howa 1500, Weatherby Vanguard.. all made by Howa in Japan.
Mine is a tackdriver out to 300 yards producing sub MOA groups, I did a review on it in the rifle section, you should check it out.
Love my Howa.
Not scarce at all, they are found everywhere and is one of the best rifles in its price range.

Howa 1500 as stated above. I have the Weatherby Vanguard version in .257 Weatherby. It's a very well made rifle and mine shoots small groups. A little heavier than they need to be and they don't come in a true short action, but they're one of the better values out there.

The Model 1500 Deluxe was the .300 Win Mag version. These were imported between 1981 & 1985. The Weatherby Vanguard, Weatherby Sub MOA, Howa Lightning & Howa 1500 are all basically the same gun and available today.

I don't think the S&W 1500 is really rare...but maybe not the most commenly found rifles in some areas.

I bought a standard version S&W 1500 chambered for .308 just yesterday.

Howa model 1500

Have been involved in the shooting sports for almost 50 years. Have taken apart & hot-rodded many brands of bolt-actions over the past 30 years. It is my sincere opinion, that the remington model 721 /722 / 700 rifles are my favorite for everything.

However, the howa 1500 is my overwhelming second runner up. I hate to say it, but the howa company engineers in japan, got this design spot-on awesome.
