S&W Model 19-2,3,4,6 ?

Would someone enlighten me on what the difference is between these suffixes on the Model 19?

At first I thought it was the barrel length, but looking round the 'net I see that isn't so. . .

So what do the different #'s refer to?

The numbers represent minor design changes over the course of production.

The -4 is the last revision with recessed cylinders and pinned barrels if I remember right.
