A friend called me last night about a gun he just purchased, a S&W M19-4 and was inquiring if he got a good deal. Its the nickel plated version and in great shape with a holster and he paid $200 for it. Not being a revolver guy, I told him that any S&W for that price was good.
Was I right?

I have a nickel 19-5 that I found last year in the box for $300 and I thought I got a heck of a deal. I don't really care for nickel that much but the price was right. Your buddy got a really good deal if everything works as it should. I was in the same shop last week where I bought my 19 and they had just sold a model 66 (stainless version of the 19) for $599. My how things change. I used to be able to find good deals on older Smiths but someone let the cat out of the bag where I live and everyone wants them now.

$200 for a Model 19-4 in "great shape" is one of those deals your friend can brag about. It's probably worth twice that price or more, depending upon how great the condition really is.

That's a smokin' deal. Last one I saw down here was $400. And there hasn't been one since. But then, I do live in the nether regions of the USA.
