S&W Model 29-8?

I just purchased a new S&W Model 29-8 with a 6 1/2" barrel, which I can't find listed on the S&W web page or in the 2003 catalog. I know Acusport had a Model 29 commemorative edition done, but I can't get to the picture on their web site.

Does anybody have any idea where these came from? It was priced roughly the same as the Model 629's ($600).

Assuming I do this right, a picture should be attached.

I bought our 6.5" 's from RSR Wholesale . I'm not sure if they were an exclusive gun for them or not . No other distributor has offered me any though .
The 29 Mountain gun seems to be a standard item .

After some digging at the Smith & Wesson Forum (the search engine is down over there), it appears there may have been a production run for RSR and one for Lew Horton. The product number on mine (149573) doesn't match the one quoted for the Lew Horton run. Perhaps RSR is distributing the Lew Horton guns? Never quite figured out how that stuff works.

The fit and finish of my example is near perfect and the lockup is as tight as I've ever felt on all six chambers. Now my problem is deciding if I want to shoot it or not. No, I know I *want* to shoot it. My real problem is deciding if I *will* shoot it, since it seems to be a limited production run.

If I do, I will post a range report.

What a beautiful weapon; and very nice pic! Looks like
one to hold onto for many year's to come. S&W model
29's and/or 629's are wonderful firearm's. I once had
one that dated back to the early 60's that had an "S"
prefix serial number; 4" factory nickel that I got off of
an ex-Birmingham, AL police officer. It was one of the
ones you hear about, that was carried a lot; and shot
very little. I acquired it back when S&W model 29's
were extremely scarce (Dirty Harry era); cuz everybody
wanted one. Moral of the story is, I ended up selling
it to a dealer for a lot more than I paid for it. Not
accepting cash dollars from the dealer; I
traded it for 2X Smith & Wesson model 60's
with the "R" serial prefix. At the time, they
were scarce themselves.

Nowday's, my Smith & Wesson .44 magnum collection
is limited to only one 5" model 629-5 "Classic". And
this weapon is as good as it get's; and would rival
the model 29 weapons of yester-year!
