I was talking to a buddy earlier and mentioned lusting over a model 29 with a 5" barrel that I saw as a kid. he was saying that he didn't think s&w ever made a 29 with a 5" barrel. but I could have sworn I've seen one. I know the 4", 6"* and 8 3/8" were the standards, but I would bet dollars to donuts there was a factory model 29 with a 5" barrel.

can anyone help me out here?

* or was it 6 1/2"?

According to The Standard Catalog Of Smith & Wesson
2nd edition by Supica & Nahas, the Smith & Wesson
model 29 was introduced in December of 1955. Although
the 5" barrel model was extremely rare, there were
a few produced. By todays standards, one of these jewels
would most certainly be PRICELESS!

IF MEMORY SERVES THE 5" M29's WERE MADE FOR THE

H.H. HARRIS COMPANY
CHICAGO ILLINOIS
In the late '50'S. At least 500 were made and they had trouble getting rid of 'em all.
Ted Keith had one way back then and it was his favorite 44MAG hunting sixgun according to his daddy, Elmer.
