S&W Model 41 Frame or Barrel Misfits

Borrowed a friends 7.5" barrel to try on my frame, but it didn't fit. Very discouraging. Could someone please fill me in on the reason, or reasons. Did S&W make some changes to either the frame or barrel configurations, as both Model 41s are at least 15 years old.

It is probably a matter of tolerance build-up between the pistols. I have a 20 something year old 41 and recently bought a new barrel. It went in with no problems.

Sometimes barrel assemblies require individual fitting to the receivers.
Sometimes they drop right on and most times they do not.
