Recently purchased ,current production gun, with a slide to frame fit which to me is unacceptable. The repair center in Maine refuses to help, they claim it is within tolerence. I have owned another model 41 and have examined many of them and none of these had a slide to frame gap even half as wide as this one. Who at S&W can I contact? Thanks

I agree with Standing Wolf.
Smith and Wesson will generally do anything they can to satisfy a customer.
If the gun is brand new, their lifetime warranty is in effect and I do not know of a single instance where they refused to correct a factory defect.

This is where your local dealer and/or sales rep needs to help you.
They have more pull than an individual

Now that I stop to think about it, I doubt I've ever seen a slide to frame gap on a model 41.

The model 41 is made in Maine rather than Massachusetts, which may be one of the reasons its quality has always been more consistent than that of Smith & Wesson revolvers.

There's really no excuse for gaps on that pistol: it's been in continuous production with very few changes since 1957. I'll always prefer High Standard triggers, but willingly concede the model 41's design is more modern and stronger; the fit and finish are usually consistently better than High Standard delivered, and the gun is much easier to disassemble, clean, and reassemble.

It might be worth your while to measure all the parts involved before you get on the telephone.

How do they know it's within tolerances? What did you tell them or have you sent it in to them already?
Can you post some pics for us?

The repair center has the gun, regret not measuring gap before shipment. The gap is very noticeable. I never dreamed S&W wouldn't correct this .The supervisor left a message that he will contact me tomorrow. I am embarrassed to take this gun to the range. Why did I buy this gun? My local gun shop ordered it for me and I felt obligated to purchase , having faith that S&W would make it right.

Never feel obligated to take possession of merchandise that doesn't meet your approval. The dealer could have easily sent it back to the distributor as damaged goods and requested another. It was his problem and not yours, but that's water under the bridge now.
I hope S&W makes it right for you. If not I would talk to the dealer about the problem.
