Well I took my newly aquired Model 41 to the range this morning. Temp was about 45 degrees. After running a box of 50 Fed Champions with no problems, I switched to Rem 22 Target and began to get one or two misfires per magazine. When I examined the extracted rounds they had healthy and deep firing pin hits. Never seen anything like it. I have heard talk of increasing the pin spring but the hits looked adequate to me. What say you...?

I would say that you are the end user in an ever increasing trend of poor quality control amongst ammunition loaders. It's not just Remington that is having problems.

Next time you go to the range, I would take along another .22 rf, say, one of your bolt action rifles and try to refire the cartridge; If it still fails to go off, then you have a tentative answer. I say "tentative" because the .22 rf's reliability depends on priming compound occupying 360 degrees of the rim. If it's a partial fill, you could potentially have hit the area where there was no priming compound. In that case, refiring it in another gun could result in the area that is primed to set the cartridge off.

My money is still on poor quality control in the manufacture, though.

I don't buy the Remington stuff unless it's the only option... causes issue with my MKII target. Can't feed a mag worth without stoppage. -wingnut13

You answered your own question when you said it worked perfectly with 50 rounds of Federal, and then the Rem mis-fires had heavy firing pin hits.

CrappyBad Rem ammo plain & simple.

Don't mess with the Model 41's hammer (not pin) spring.
There is nothing wrong with it.

The Model 41 firing pin spring only retracts the firing pin.
It has nothing at all to do with how hard the internal hammer hits it.

Remington made 22 Rimfire ammo has been crappy ammo for decades. If you are Lucky enough to get a round that actually has priming compound in it. Let alone the right amount. The priming compound it so dirty burning it does not do cycling of a semi auto any good after a couple boxs.

To top it off Winchester moved their Rimfire production to a new plant around 2006 and it is not much better these days.

Stick to CCI or Federal or get some of the good import stuff.

I was gonna say.

You buy the finest .22 Match grade pistol made today and then shoot cheap ammo in it?

It will run indefinately with good ammo.

Mine has been going strong since I bought it used in 1968.
