I went thru at least two blued and one nickeled 58 and one blued 4" 57.
Yours appears to have been Mag-na-ported.
Throughout it's history the 41 mag has been held down by a lack of good factory loads for other than hunting.
In the 70's I ended up shooting 41's because I couldn't shoot a 4" 44 mag double action. The recoil was too heavy to keep going shot after shot. With the heavier barrel on the 41's I could, barely.
Ayoob has said that you can shoot a 44 mag ( in my case a 41 mag ) better than someone else can shoot a 357, but you'll never be able to outshoot what you can do with a 357. True: my best was Expert on the course with full charge 41's. My best with full charge 125 gr. 357's out of a 2&1/2" barrel was Distinguished Master.
If the 58 had been chambered in 45acp/45auto-rim, or even 45 ColtI think it would have been a major success for S&W.
