I think that's a good choice, the N frames will stand a LOT of shooting & ask for more.
The extra weight they have will soften recoil considerably too another consideration. A good belt & holster will make carry in the field a breeze & you will be prepared for almost any situation. Remember to wear good hearing protection, handguns & PARTICULARLY the .357 are HARD on hearing. A holster I like a LOT for field carry is the Simply Rugged. www.simplyrugged.com I use one a lot & they are great holsters & don't break the bank as holsters go.
Good shooting. Keep us informed

The eye and, hearing protection are certainly not an issue. As an auto mechanic I own over a dozen pair or safety glasses and, I buy ear plugs in bulk. I have to buy my own and, I like to plenty of spares. In my area used hand guns are a little tough to find when looking for something in particular so, I'm probably going to end up getting new and, with a msrp of about $1,000 it will take probably about 6 months to come up with the spare cash.

I'm familiar with saving for a gun!!!
Makes it nicer when you finally have the cash & get just what you want.
Good luck Staying tuned to follow your adventure!

Good choice. The Model 27 is the Cadillac of S&W revolvers and a pussycat with .357 Magnums. Look for an older one if you can find one in your price range.
