I've got an opportunity to purchase a .22lr S&W Model 63 w/ 4" barrel.
Gun is, in my opinion, about 95%. So far fit & finish is good, crown & barrel is good, has the usual marks on the cylinder w/ some "slight" play (may need to be retimed?). Gun is an early square-butt pre-lock.
Unfortunately, it does not have original grips (some aftermarket target type), there is no original paperwork, or box. We (gunshop) are currently looking into original stuff but, it may not happen.
Without the original stuff, is this gun worth $400?
What's it worth as original?

Thanks

According to "Blue Book of Gun Values", 28th ed., Fjestad, a S&W M63 (22/32 Kit Gun), the value of a 100% (NIB) is $400.00. A 95% gun is valued@ $300.00. Hope that helps.

That's a fair price for today, though it may (stress may) change later this year when the new 5" 8 shot model 63's start becoming available. The new model 63's will have the lock, so may not affect the price of the old ones. The grips are no big deal, the S&W magna grips (round butt J-frame without diamonds) often sell on ebay for $15-20 bucks. Original box & tools would increase the price but would NOT show if the gun came with smooth or checkered target grips, standard magna grips, or wood or rubber "combat" grips.
