S&W model?

High everyone,

My dad has a blued .375 Mag. and we want to know what model # it is.... so we can lean more about it and buy accessories for it.... (he bought it as an hd gun and never really inquired about model # since he just wanted to fill the safe... gun fever... we're all victoms...)

I opend the cylinder wheel and it read Mod. 13-2 and also reads F-3 under this on the bar that joins the wheel to the frame... the revolver was bought used in the late 70's to early 80's so it is a pretty old gun...

Any help or further info would be great.....

It's a Model 13-2. That's a K-frame, fixed-sight .357 magnum. It'll take the same speedloaders and stocks as a Model 10 (be sure to determine whether the frame is round- or square-butted before buying new stocks).

A nice gun. Go easy on the number of full-house .357 magnum loads you shoot out of it, and it should last a lifetime.

it looks exactly like the second one.... with the longer barrel...


Can anyone tell me any info (or were to go to get info) on when the gun was made? History? Price tag? (not that i want to sell it... just would like to know so it finds the proper place in the fondeling department...lol)

All we ever put through it are .357 rounds.... why? will it damadge it?

Jorgy, the durability of the K-frame .357 S&W has been debated here at great length. Most will agree that the hot 125gr loads are the most taxing on the revolver. I believe it will outlive your grandchildren, unless one of you takes up competition shooting with it.

Regarding your "born-on" date, the serial number on the butt would help nail it down more closely, but Smith made the 13-2 from 1977 to 1982, so your memory is pretty good.

Jorgy, you can shoot 357's for a LONG time before worrying about loosening up your revolver. For what it's worth, you can also shoot .38 Specials through that gun. They are MUCH more economical if you are plinking and target shooting with it. Clean the charge holes and barrel and wipe the gun down with an oily cloth after shooting it, and it will last several lifetimes.
