Took my almost-new MP9 to the range this afternoon. I have a couple hundred rounds through it so far and it has always shot low. I thought I was continuing my 1911 flinch, so today I was really focusing on front sight and trigger squeeze. This gun recoils so politely I was able to really be focused on fundamentals.

My MP9 is the standard model without adjustable sights, night sights, or magazine safety. I was at ten yards, using a standard 25 yard pistol target. I was shooting a variety of standard (read: inexpensive) 115 grain FMJ target ammo - Monarch (Academy brand), Blazer aluminum, WWB. I was using a 12:00 hold and still, bullets were striking 3-4 inches low. I tried Isosceles and switched to Weaver stance. No noticible difference in POI. I got out sandbags and shot off the sandbags. Even with a 12:00 "plus" hold, I was still hitting 1-2 inches below the bull.

FWIW, the grouping was excellent. Unfortunately, it's too low!

What's the chance this is a gun problem and not an operator problem? Anyone else have the problem? Does anyone make adjustable sights for the MP series yet that are self-installable (i.e. doesn't require gunsmithing)? I love the gun; shoots & feels well in my hand. I just can't get POI to agree with POA. Any thoughts???

Thanks,

I've heard of it happening. Sometimes the sights are just too high. You could call Smith and see what they'll do for you. You could also have a gunsmith file them down a bit, but I'd have Smith take a look first. Maybe it'll come back with something better. Make sure you explain that you sand-bagged it and still had consistant low shots.
