Thanks for any input from those who owned/shot the S&W Night Guard - the 7/8-shot-.357magnum revolver.

I have a 386 night guard, had it for a month and really enjoy it. The rubber grips are nice at the rangw with full house loads but I think I'll put wood on for carry. Trigger is nice but I still think I might break down and get a master action job done on it by smith, but the trigger is good enough that I'm in no hurry to do it. Points well for me and is accurate for sd situations, the front sight is quite large so long distance pin point accuracy is pretty hard, or at least for me it is. But rapid fire point shooting I can still cover all 7 with my hand, so thats good enough for me. Hope it helps, only reason that I didn't get the 327 is I figured that would be unconfortable in a iwb holster, just my opinion though. I'd say can't go wrong either way.

Sure does!

Your comment certainly helps, dirtygrunt95. I think I'll go with the 386 too, for the reason you've mentioned. Thanks!

Another NG386 owner. I've had mine for about three weeks now, and I've put about 125 rounds through it.

My experiences match dirtygrunt95s, mostly. I come from shooting j-frames a lot in the last year (16,000-18,000 rounds), so I'm still getting used to the L-frame action and size.

1. I find the trigger could use an action job--but I think I'll just wear it in.

2. The C&S rear sight does not work well with my eyes--(age issues)--the notch is too deep. So, I ordered out a Millet replacement from Brownells--and found the mounting holes don't match up; I have to drill another one. Otherwise, it'll fit.

3. The grips are far and away the most pleasant part so far--enough so that I'm calling S&W to try to get another set for my 686.

Depending on which frame you have experience with, you'd probably find the NG386 a pleasant lightweight compared to the 686, or a pleasant 'heavierweight' compared to the j-frames. It weighs about the same as my 640, but nearly twice as much as my M&P 340.

No real complaints--but I will mention that I find the sideplate finish almost matches the Scandium frame. And, my sample seems to consistently shoot about 2.5" low and 2" left. After I mount up the Millet, I'll check again for POA with some factory 158s--and if it's still off, I'll send it in for tweaking. Right now, I think it may just be my eyes, but we'll see.

The complaints above are not surprising to me as a mass-produced item gets ramped up in production, and I imagine S&W will stand behind it.

Overall, I am quite satisfied.

As for the N-frame 8-shot--well, I do find the N-frame to be one size bigger than I like. I have a pre-27 3.5" I inherited, and it is a beautiful gun--but it is BIG.

Just picked up the 327NG and could't be happier.

Pretty stout recoil with 357 mag loads; the 135 grain gold dot 38 special loads get the nod for carry in mine.

Anyone seen a holster for the 327 yet?

Galco has them for N frame 2.5" , but there's plenty more also especially custom makers. I was shooting some 125's in 357 out of my 386 the other day, were a little brisk. This week I put some ahrend wood grips on it I'll find out if that was a good idea.
