Oh Hi Oh
I got a chance to shoot my new S&W 629 Classic, 5". Glad I opted for the full-lugged barrel instead of the Mountain Gun. The frame seems just right to absorb the recoil and the 5" barrell is much easier for me to keep level than the longer barrel of the 629 I rented a few weeks ago.

I only shot single-action today and kept the target fairly close (only 15 to 25 feet). I got some VERY tight groups. I'll focus on double action and moving the target further out next time I go to the range. I like to set myself up for success and to take time to get a feel for any new gun.

I shot PMC 180 gr and PMC 240 gr through it, maybe a total of 50 or 60 rounds. While on a shot-by-shot basis the gun isn't too punsishing the cumulative effect of all those rounds did leave my palm a bit tender. I'm wondering if grips that cover the backstrap might help. I know the X-Frame grips fit the 629. Anyone know of other rubber grips that cover the backstrap?

By the way, I found that shooting my .357 right after shooting the 629 made the .357 feel like a pellet gun and I was much more accurate with it. So from now on I guess it's going to be .44 with a .357 chaser when I go to the range!
