I recently had to send my brand new, never been fired Victory SW22 back to Smith to have the barrel retention screw replaced.

I've seen a lot of posts that the original Victory's had an issue with the screw backing out under normal use.

Apparently S&W has overcompensated and have been putting red Loctite on the screws, or having Mongo torque them down with a pipe wrench.

Called Customer Service yesterday and was told it was in the pistol shop, but no status. It's been there about 3 weeks. The Customer Service guy said they were very busy. I was very polite because I didn't want my gun tossed into a corner for an additional 2 weeks.

I'm wondering if they "triage" their repairs, fixing the easier ones first or do they process them as them come in regardless of the problem.

I didn't take it to a LGS to be fixed because my thinking is that Smith created the problem, and they should be the ones to fix it.

Anybody else have to wait 6-8 weeks for a simple repair from S&W?

Why would you send it back to S&W for something you could do? All you had to do is heat a little bit with a hair dryer and it would have come right out.

md,

Only had to use SW customer service once for a cracked frame on my 5906. They solved the problem but it took two years and eleven different contacts (email and phone calls) to finally get some action. One person retired from SW during the service period and another got promoted- both times my pistol got lost in the paperwork. So if you're getting it back in 6-8 weeks that is good from my experience (though realizing your problem is simpler than mine was).

I sent in a Model 63 for repair a while back. The problem was a factory expedient for a batch with manufacturing defects. It took months to fix, there was a hefty charge and communication during the process was poor. :(

As with most manufacturers, when quality goes down, the company gets swamped with repairs & waits get longer.
It's been years since I sent a S&W in for repair but it was back to me in around three weeks. I doubt that would happen today.

Wish I read this earlier. Picked up a Smith/Walther PPK. Found out it was part of a recall. Sent it off a couple of weeks ago. Hope I get it back in a reasonable amount of time.

No choice in this case though.

I had to send mine in for the same issue. I tried everything to get it out. I even broke a wrench.

I think mine was back in 3 weeks, but that was ~6 months ago.

Just got an email from S&W that I should have it back on Friday.

6 weeks turn-around time.

I have a new Victory, shot it a bunch, no screw backing out, and no red Loctite.

In regards to 6-8 weeks, that's a little bit longer than the average I've waited for other manufacturers by only a week or two, so it's about at par.

I had them fix a canted front sight about six years ago. It took weeks, was expensive, and they didn't follow my return instructions (instead trying to send it to a shop that had closed while they had it). When they couldn't send it to the closed shop, they didn't contact me and just kept it until I called them after weeks of waiting. I had clearly stated in the included letter that it was to be returned to my address. And they charged me a day's pay to do it all.

I should have just had someone local do it.

Picked up my Victory from FedEx today. They installed a new takedown screw. This one wasn't torqued down by Mongo but I did notice red loctite on the threads. Looking forward to finally shooting it.
